Stories You See

“Stories You See” is a family-friendly theater production that introduces the audience to the world of Deaf people and shows that communication can transcend the barriers of language, experience, and perceptions of reality. The main characters—Lena and Leon—belong to two different worlds: the world of “sound” and the world of “silence.” Although they live in different realities on a daily basis, their encounter marks the beginning of a story about curiosity toward others, getting to know one another, and building a relationship despite their differences.

The play tells, in an accessible and moving way, of the need for community, openness, and mutual understanding. It is a story that encourages us to view diversity not as an obstacle, but as a value that enriches our experience of the world.

Who?

Ewa Łukasiewicz—director of the play and co-author of the script, affiliated with the Szwalnia Theater, where she produces theatrical and educational projects aimed at children, teenagers, and families.

Paulina Ilska – co-writer of the screenplay.

Klaudia Kuźmierska and Jakub Sirko—the actors playing the lead roles, who guide the audience through a story about the meeting of two worlds.

Tomasz Krzyżanowski – music composer

Justyna Rochala – set designer.

Joanna Jędraszczyk—a Polish Sign Language (PJM) interpreter who has been collaborating on cultural and educational events for years, promoting cultural accessibility for Deaf people.

For Whom?

The performance is intended for children ages 7 and up, teenagers, and adults. It is aimed at families as well as anyone interested in the topics of cultural integration, accessibility, diversity, and communication. Thanks to its universal story, the performance resonates with audiences regardless of age or background, encouraging conversation about how to build relationships between people from different linguistic and cultural worlds.

Why is it worth it?

The Łódź of Many Cultures Festival presents the city as a space where different traditions, languages, and ways of experiencing reality come together. “Stories You Can See” fits perfectly into this concept, showcasing multiculturalism in its most fundamental form—as a willingness to engage with others. The performance was designed for both hearing and Deaf audiences.

The event will be interpreted into Polish Sign Language (PJM).

The venue is wheelchair accessible. The Szwalnia Theater has a ramp, an accessible restroom, and parking.
