SHKOON <\/strong>is a Syrian-German duo that has been developing its own musical language for over a decade, blending Middle Eastern melodies and Arabic lyrics with deep house, dub, downbeat, and hip-hop. <\/p>\n\n The story of SHKOON began in 2015 in Hamburg with a meeting between Ameen Khayer, who had arrived in Germany from war-torn Syria, and German producer and pianist Thorben Diekmann. From this chance encounter and their shared fascination with music, a project was born that is now considered one of the most intriguing phenomena in Arab electronic music. From the very beginning, his work has transcended boundaries\u2014between East and West, tradition and modernity, memory and the search for new forms of expression. <\/p>\n\n Rima<\/em> 2019 debut album blended Arabic folklore and emotional lyrics with Western electronic music. Subsequent releases\u2014including the live album FIRAQ<\/em> and the conceptual album Masrahiya <\/em>(\u201cTheatrical Art\u201d)\u2014further developed the duo\u2019s distinctive sound. Their latest project, “Greater Than One”, marks both a return to SHKOON\u2019s musical roots and a story about the strength that arises from encounters with others. <\/p>\n\n The musicians describe their work as \u201cmusical diplomacy\u201d\u2014they believe that music can build bridges, open up new perspectives, and remind us of what we have in common in a world increasingly marked by divisions.
