INDIA DAY | Indian culture day at Fuzja

Even before the official start of the Festival, there will be an INDIA DAY at Fuzja! The programme includes music, traditional henna tattoos and dance workshops. Of course, there will be plenty of Indian delicacies. Finally, there will be a screening of the film as part of the TME Polówka and Many Cultures Cinema!

Workshops and activities

– 15:00-18:30 Saree draping – traditional indian dress

During INDIA DAY, it will be possible to wear the traditional women’s dress from India – the saree. It is a brightly coloured garment made up of long strips of fabric that you can put on yourself.

– 15:00-18:30 Language Exchange Cafe – similarities between Polish and Hindi

Language Exchange Cafe – a place to talk about the similarities between Polish and Hindi! There are a lot of words that sound the same but mean something different or the same! English speaking volunteers will help with the conversation!

– 15:00-18:00 Henna Kiosk

Henna tattoos are an integral part of Hindu culture. During the event, there will be a stall where you can get a henna tattoo. The tattoos will be done by a group of henna artists from India: Eram Ansari, Simme Kazi.

– 15:00-18:30 Rangoli Mandala Art

Rangoli Mandala Art is an art form originating from the Indian subcontinent in which patterns are created on the floor or table top using materials such as powdered limestone, red ochre, dry rice flour, coloured sand, quartz powder, flower petals and coloured rocks. This is an everyday practice in many Indian homes, but its creation is mainly reserved for festivals and other important celebrations.

– 15:00-18:30 Indian stand exhibited by the Student-Doctoral Research Group of the Middle East Al-Mashrik

Studencko-Doktoranckie Koło Naukowe Bliskiego Wschodu Al-Maszrik from the Faculty of International and Political Studies at the University of Łódź will be presenting its stand at India Day. The stand will feature items related to Indian culture, books on the subject, photographs and quizzes. There will also be Hindi workshops and a lecture on Indian culture and traditional cuisine.

lecturer:
Dr Natalia Zajączkowska – academic, NGO collaborator, author of journal articles. She has conducted field research and worked professionally in West Asia and India on several occasions. As part of her doctoral studies, she visited the University of Cambridge (Centre of South Asian Studies) in the UK and Jawaharlal Nehru University (Centre for the Study of Social Systems) in India. She has held a scholarship from the Indian government and taught Arabic language at the University of Lodz.

Music and dance

– 15:00-18:30 Set DJ with Indian music

Addy Berry is a talented DJ/producer and experienced sound engineer. With a deep-rooted passion for music, he has dedicated himself to honing his craft and delivering unforgettable experiences. Known for his versatility and unwavering dedication, he has had the pleasure of wowing crowds in a variety of venues. Combining commercial, hip-hop and house music, he has been making splash in the music scene for the past 7 years, performing at prestigious music festivals and clubs. His original songs have been critically acclaimed, featured on prestigious platforms such as Rolling Stone India and aired on radio station Red FM. Addy Berry is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry!

India is a country of vibrant cultures, rich traditions and diverse art forms, where dance holds a special place in the hearts of its people. From the classical elegance of Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Odissi to the energetic rhythms of folk dances such as Bhangra, Garba and Ghumar, dance in India is a powerful form of storytelling that goes beyond words. Each dance form carries the essence of the region from which it originates, combining mythology, history and spirituality into intricate movements and expressions. In India, dance is not just an art form; it is a celebration of life, a spiritual journey and a timeless connection to the roots of a culture.

About the presenter: Darshana Bhatia – comes from the North West region of India and has been living in Łódź for the past seven years. She is a teacher by profession and dance is one of her deepest passions. She believes that dance is the purest expression of the inner rhythm of the soul.

Food

Indian food during INDIA DAY will be provided by Sneha’s Touch of India from Lodz, and the Indian Embassy in collaboration with the Curry King restaurant in Warsaw will provide snacks for our guests.

Film

At 7 p.m., in collaboration with TME Polowka, we will present the film The Unusual Journey of the Fakir Who Got Stuck in the Closet | dir. Ken Scott | 92 min | comedy.
