MUSIC AT THE PICNIC
Concerts: Ablaye Badji, Odpoczno | DJs: Pham, Lizard
What is it about?
We invite you to the music zone at the Intergenerational Picnic, announcing this year’s edition of the Łódź of Many Cultures Festival.
By whom?
DJ set Pham | time 17:00-18:00 and 19:00-20:00
Pham is a Polish-Vietnamese music producer active on the international electronic music scene.
Pham, born Dawid Pham Ngoc, comes from south-western Poland. Growing up near Nysa, he attended art classes, where he discovered dance and music. This combination led Pham to take up music production, which quickly resulted in numerous remixes on SoundCloud that gained a large following.
Pham has collaborated with international artists such as Mario, IMANU, Josh Pan, and NJOMZA. He has also made his mark on the Polish music scene, producing tracks for Quebonafide, Taco Hemingway, and Tymek. Since 2023, he has been working on new sounds with Lotta and is currently promoting his single ‘Honey’.
Concert by the band Odpoczno | 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Odpoczno pushes the revival of Polish rural dance into new areas, expanding its former fiery freedom with boldly entertaining jazz trance. The band was formed in Łódź in 2014, and its members have experience in various fields. The pulsating heart of the group is the award-winning violinist Marcin Lorenc, curator of traditional material drawn from the heritage of the old masters of the Opoczno region, and Joanna Szczęsnowicz, who sings old songs and brings out bass rhythms from her cello.
Piotr Gwadera appears on a small drum kit, scattering precisely funky, lace patterns, on which the inventive power and ferocity of the outstanding jazz guitarist Marek Kądziela hangs – like a shimmering costume woven from imagination. Thanks to their debut album, named after the band, Saturday country dances seem to go on forever.
Odpoczno: Joanna Szczęsnowicz – vocals, bass, electronics, Marcin Lorenc – violin, Marek Kądziela – guitar, Piotr Gwadera – drums
Ablaye Badji concert | 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Ablaye Badji is a multi-instrumentalist: he uses bark, plays percussion instruments, is a vocalist and composer. He comes from a well-known family of griots – the Cissokos.
Ablaye was born and raised in Ziguinchor, Senegal, surrounded by the cultural richness and music of his ancestors. He began his musical education by learning to play traditional instruments such as the djembe, sabar and seourouba. His family home, filled with siblings, cousins, uncles, aunts and elders, was constantly filled with music.
This natural immersion in music from an early age laid a solid foundation for his further artistic development. International tours with his uncle’s band, The Golden Kora Band, allowed him to develop his musical skills to an even higher level. For ten years, the artist has been living and working in Poland, where, through personal and community experiences, he has built a unique musical identity, combining tradition with experimentation in contemporary music.
Music on a bicycle performed by DJ Lizard | 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
We also invite you to other picnic areas: workshop, relaxation, market and food!
