Take a Breath: Intergenerational Creation of Air Sculptures | Workshop
What?
“Take a Breath” is an outdoor art workshop in a picnic-style setting, during which we’ll work together to create small mobiles—kinetic sculptures that come to life with even the gentlest breeze.
In a world full of haste and tension, these workshops offer the opposite: a moment to pause, mindfulness, tenderness, and working together. People of all ages are invited to participate, regardless of their manual skills. Creating mobiles requires a search for balance, patience, and cooperation—just like building a community where different voices, experiences, and stories can remain in constant dialogue.
Each of the resulting sculptures will be different, but they will all be connected by the movement of air. It is precisely this diversity that serves as the starting point for reflecting on the concept behind the Łódź Many Cultures Festival: community does not have to mean uniformity—it can be a constellation of many distinct elements that interact with one another, respond to each other, and seek balance together.
Who?
Jola Królicka – A cultural facilitator and educator with many years of experience in implementing participatory and intergenerational projects. She specializes in unconventional art workshops that combine crafts, ecology, and free creative expression. In her work, she views art primarily as a space for connection and a tool for building closeness among people.
For Whom?
The workshops are intergenerational—we welcome children, teens, adults, and seniors, as well as families, groups of friends, and anyone coming to the festival on their own who’d like to join in the collaborative creation for a while. You don’t need to have artistic talent or experience building furniture. What matters most is curiosity, a willingness to experiment, and a desire to spend time with others.
Why is it worth it?
The Łódź Multicultural Festival is a place where people with different backgrounds, experiences, and worldviews come together. “Take a Breath” translates this idea into a simple, shared activity: instead of just talking about community, it invites participants to build one. The mobiles created during the workshops require diverse elements, appropriate relationships between them, and balance so that they can move freely through the air. This quality becomes a beautiful metaphor for a multicultural community—one in which you don’t have to give up your own individuality to maintain relationships with others. And along the way, the workshops offer something very simple yet essential: the opportunity to slow down, work with your hands, and spend time together.
Availability
The workshops will take place in Survivors’ Park. They are open to everyone, held outdoors, and bring together people of all ages. No prior artistic or manual skills are required to participate.
